We specialise in International Recruitment
There is broad recognition that the Isle of Man and the wider United Kingdom are facing ongoing critical labour shortages across all sectors of the economy. The current Work Permit provisions are still seen as a barrier to recruitment by many companies, although most of our applications have been approved.
With the global skill challenge, this page focuses on the Skilled Worker Visa benefits for employers, employees, and their families.
Benefits for the Employer
- Due to significant local labour shortages, many companies have found skilled labour elsewhere. Hiring international talent allows companies to hire long-term skilled workers in various occupations.
- As you sponsor their visa, Skilled Workers are more likely to stay with your company. A visa sponsorship not only shows significant investment in their professional career, but it also gives the employee an opportunity they would not otherwise have to move to a new country.
- Hiring internationally enables companies to access skilled workers with diverse skills and experiences that can help drive innovation and creativity in the workplace. In addition, hiring international talent can help local companies expand their impact; for instance, hiring multilingual employees can help companies tap into non-English speaking communities within our Island and the U.K.
- After sponsoring a Skilled Worker Visa, employers can continue to support their employee’s immigration journeys by supporting their application for indefinite leave to remain here. The longer time frames and ability to bring spouses/families into the country help the Skilled Workers feel more settled, boosting their morale and productivity at work.
Benefits for the Skilled Worker
- Skilled Workers have the peace of mind and security of knowing that their employer has been verified and evaluated under the regulations for hiring internationally.
- The Skilled Worker Visa and sponsorship category allows longer working stays; workers can come to the UK for a maximum of 5 years and 14 days – or the time given on your certificate of employment/sponsorship plus one month, whichever is shorter. After this point, should the worker wish to stay long-term, they can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain if eligible.
- The Skilled Worker Visa allows workers to begin their stay up to 14 days before the start date on their certificate of sponsorship. This allows Skilled Workers to get settled before commencing their roles.
- The Visa permits Skilled Workers to take a second job in certain circumstances.
- With the visa sponsorship under their belt, Skilled Workers are no longer required to obtain additional visas when travelling and returning to the Isle of Man or the UK.
- This visa category allows the worker to bring family members with them – avoiding the loneliness and isolation sometimes experienced by expatriate assignees.
